Proctor

The Proctors have been extremely hard to trace. According to a hand written note from my great aunt, Mary Ann Southern, nee Proctor, was born in 1817, the daughter of Andrew Proctor. Both of these facts are confirmed by her marriage certificate. With considerable help from Richard Proctor, a distant cousin, I have an extended tree that I believe is accurate. I have documentary evidence for some of it - but some relies on information pulled together by Richard's uncles. It seems that the Proctors were Glasites, followers of John Glas' breakaway church, the archives of which are held by Dundee University. This is what I now have:

John Proctor (b. 1744, d. 1800)
m. Jane Forest, 1789, All Saints, Newcastle upon Tyne
...William (b. 1790), druggist & pharmacist
...James (b. 1793)
James Proctor (b. 1754)
m. Jean Ferguson (1776, Dunkeld, Perth)
...Andrew Proctor (b. 1777), cordwainer
...m. Hannah Wilson (1798)
......Robert Wilson (b. 1799)
......m. Maria Saltarelli
......William (b. 1811), druggist & pharmacist
......m. Ann Myers
.........Robert Saltarelli (named as nephew and executor in William Southern's will)
......Hannah
......Mary Ann (b. 1817)
......m.William Southern
...Thomas (b. 1782, Edinburgh)
...m. Martha Jordan, 1805, St Nicholas & NC, Newcastle upon Tyne
...Susannah (b. 1790)
...Isabella (b. 1797)

Barnard Simpson Proctor, son of William, b. 1790, was a great pal of Joseph Swan. He married Maria Gray, niece of Michael Faraday.
I have a lot more information and believe that I can now go back several more generations, so if you are interested, please get in touch.
