  • "Apart from the early displays on the premises of Messrs. Mawson & Swan in Mosley Street, James Coxon, an enterprising linen-draper of Newcastle, was the first to adopt the Swan lamp for shop-lighting, thus proving himself a pioneer in what has been one of the most extensively exploited applications of the incandescent electric lamp, namely, its use for purposes of advertisement."(p75)

I am indebted to Lois Saleeba in Australia (descended from Isaac Coxon) for help in identifying many of these people. If you are interested in Coxons e-mail her: losal@bigpond.net.au

The Coxons are also being researched by Stoker Wilson who has a wealth of information available on his website.
